Machine Tool Bearings & Accessories is proud to offer Spieth, Whittet-Higgins and Ringfeder locknuts.

Ringfeder unique friction, keyless shaft-hub locking devices provide an easily adjustable and releasable mechanical shrink-fit. They offer all advantages of shrink-fits-without the problems. Torque or axial loads are transmitted by radial clamping pressures and friction between the functional surfaces of the locking device, shaft and hub. Ringfeder shaft-hub locking devices are based on the inclined plane or taper principle. Clamping forces generated by torqued up locking screws are translated into predetermined contact pressures to create mechanical shrink-fit connections.

Advantages

  • No keys, keyways or splines and associated fitting costs.
  • Completely tight fit around the shaft.
  • Impervious to reversing, dynamic or shock loads
  • Transmission of high torques and axial loads

Benefits

  • Reduces machining costs
  • Easy installation, assembly and disassembly
  • Easy axial and angular adjustments and timing
  •

Spieth adjustable locknuts adjust, preload and secure bearings and other components on shafts and spindles with a high degree of stiffness. They permit the correct setting of the axial preload of bearings and ensure that the working loads are carried safely. The locknuts are secured positively without additional components, keys or extra machining. The high-load carrying ability of the locknut is achieved through full 360-degree contact around the thread flanks. This ensures a vice-grip locking effect. The locknut will not loosen, even during extreme shock loads. This is a crucial feature, as many other locknuts have only a few "pinch" points on the thread. Another advantage of the Spieth locknut is the feature of aligning its contact face either with zero runout or, if necessary, adjusted to suit inaccuracies of the in-line components. This compensates for minor errors of parallelism due to the stack-up of mating parts. This also eliminates spindle runout from uneven bearing loading. High accuracy can be maintained even when repetitive loosening and tightening is required. The Spieth locknuts offer solutions for a wide range of general precision, heavy machinery and equipment applications. The unique locking capability, with its high stiffness and accuracy, is excellent for spindle applications-especially for high speed and/or high dynamically loaded spindles or mechanisms.

The Whittet-Higgins line of locknuts includes bearhug self-locking nuts, precision locknuts and lock washers, and commercial locknuts and lock washers in both metric and inch series.
